IDC
Prerequisites
To attend an IDC you will
need:
A sense of humor, a love
for diving, respect for nature, good diving skills (and now the PADI
small print) - to have been a certified diver for at least 6 months
with a minimum 60 logged dives. You will need 100 dives to attend
the exam. If you are lacking dives we let you do the missing ones
for free.
You will also need to be a
PADI Divemaster (contact
us if you have a certification from a different agency), be at
least 18 years old, and provide a PADI Medical Statement (available
locally for $15)
PADI’s state of the art educational
design gives you two different opportunities to move ahead of the
class by completing part of the material online through
eLearning:
Dive Theory and IDC Theory.
Online Dive Theory is available for
candidates who want extra training or brushing up in the basic theory
subjects of Physics, Physiology, Equipment, Decompression and RDP,
General Skills, and Environment. These topics are not part of the
IDC and it is expected that you are sufficient in them. The
cost of this is $100 payable to PADI.
Online IDC Theory is available for those
candidates who would like the option of doing their Assistant
Instructor (AI) or Open Water Scuba Instructor (OWSI) courses on a
faster track by completing eLearning online. The same material is
covered through live delivery at the IDC, but this would allow you a
more flexible time during your IDC. This convenience has an
additional cost of $320 payable to PADI. This option will not save
you any cost on the IDC; but, the extra time may be spent scuba
diving (for free) on Roatan's spectacular reef.
IDC Materials
For the IDC you will need
both versions of the RDP (available here for $29 Table and $ 37 eRDPml), the IDC Crew Pack $440, & the EFR Instructor
Start-Up Pack $150.
The Crew Pack includes a free PADI Specialty Instructor Manual. If you did your Divemaster before the Instructor Manual was included
with the DM course you also need to purchase that for $100.
Diving equipment can be borrowed during training from the centre at
no additional cost.
IDC Costs
Note that the Emergency First Response Instructor (EFRI) is required
to become a Dive Instructor. The EFRI is included in our IDC (a $
275value) but you
may already have taken it beforehand.
If you are an
AI and EFRI: $ 820 for IDC
If you are an Assistant Instructor: $ 1095 for OWSI & EFRI
If you are a Divemaster: $ 1445 for IDC & EFRI
You may be
able to find slightly cheaper prices elsewhere but we believe that
our high quality training and commitment to your success is worth
the extra money. You get what you pay for no hidden cost.
All prices
include free
accommodation
and many more free extras.
Our IDC includes (at no
additional cost); "Welcome to Roatan" airport/ferry pickup, 2012
Roatan Marine Park Pass, diving before & after the IDC, free use of
our dive equipment during training, staff lunches during the course,
accommodation (double occupancy with another PADI Pro candidate),
free internet, daily transport from our accommodation to/from the
resort and transport to the IE with full logistical support from
your IDC Staff.
We also offer a 10%
continuing education discount on packages including; MSDT
Preparation, Specialty Instructor and IDC Staff
Instructor.
The following fees are
payable to PADI by credit card at the Examination
IDC Application and Examination $ 657
EFRI Application $ 86.50
Yes all of this costs a lot
of money but think of it as an investment in an enjoyable career.
You will make it all back doing a job you actually like.
