Hi, I’m Peter, Course Director for Subway Watersports here on Roatan. I have had the pleasure of working in PADI Instructor Development in the Bay Islands for the last 5 years.

I am originally from Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada and after having come to realize why Roatan is considered ‘Paradise Island’ decided to make it my home.

I have been an avid diver for the last 18 years, logging over 3400 dives. My scuba adventures have included reefs, wrecks and caves from; Australia, Malaysia, Hawaii, Mexico, the West Coast of North America and most of the Caribbean.

I grew up a ‘water kid’ – anything to do with pools, lakes, beaches and oceans fascinated me! After some years in Marine Biology I yearned for a more social life, more diving and decided to take on the challenge of becoming a PADI Dive Pro.

After a few years of Instructing & traveling throughout the 4 corners of the Caribbean I landed in the Bay Islands of Honduras. It was here that I found a love of teaching other people with the same aquatic passions - becoming Scuba Instructors.

To date I have certified over 200 PADI Pros with Instructor level certifications in the Bay Islands of Honduras. I am especially pleased to have had my efforts recognized by PADI two years in a row with their highest rating for a Course Director – ‘Platinum Status’.

Referrals from my Instructor candidates make up the majority of my new students, strengthening our community of PADI Dive Pros with work connections and sharing our Blue World. I have enjoyed bringing the Pro Diver Roatan Social together, further assisting the efforts of the Roatan Marine Park and helping build our local dive community as well.

I can now concentrate on smaller courses with increased personal attention. I have found even greater success with my students in this setting; over 80% of IDC candidates on Roatan chose our programs in 2007/8, a 100% pass rate for our IDC students in 2008 at the IE, and over 80% of new Instructors hired on Roatan in 2007/8 came from my courses!

Though the most rewarding feeling comes as each of my new Instructors goes on to their own careers, sharing their adventures underwater, their successes and experiences throughout the world.

Will you be next?

The Instructor Development Courses are held at Subway Watersports dive shop at Turquoise Bay Resort in Roatan, Bay Islands, Caribbean.
