Candidates from 2008
January
IDC Staff Instructor – Antonio
Vasques de Acevedo (Portugal) – Antonio has been an Instructor for
Pura Vida in Roatans West End and joined us for his IDCS. Antonio
has gone on to new challenges running the Dive Center at Inn of the
Last Resort here on Roatan!
Rob
Marin (USA) – After completing his Divemaster Internship at our
Subway Watersports Turquoise Bay Center Rob went off to start the
New Year completing his Instructor program! Rob enjoyed Roatan so
much he has stayed and now works for Barefoot Cay.
Stefan
Miksa (Germany) – Stefan completed his Divemaster with Altons dive
center on nearby Utila and then chose Roatan and Subway Watersports
for his Instructor Development Course. Since then he has joined the
team in the West End of Roatan @ Pura Vida.
Howie
Dean (USA) – Howie is one of the owners of Inn of the Last Resorts
Dive Center and after his success at the IDC went back to dive,
teach and enjoy his island life at the Inn.
February
IDC Staff Instructor Jack Lewis
(UK)- Jack originally became an Instructor with us in March 2007,
worked with Native Sons in West End Roatan and then joined us to
complete his IDC Staff Instructor during this IDC. After a few more
months Jack will be heading off to new diving adventures.
Adam
Schersten (USA) – Adam was another of our Divemasters who went on to
great success during the IDC. Adam has moved on to Dominica in the
Eastern Caribbean and has a ‘ten year – ten island’ plan for his
future as a PADI Instructor.
Elisa Zapico (Argentina/Spain) – Elisa completed her Divemaster work
between Utila Dive Center and her home center in Argentina, then
made the move to the IDC here at Subway Watersports. Elisa has since
returned to Argentina and now is studying her offshore sailing
license to combine her 3 favorite passions, sailing, diving and her
sailboat!
March
Stina
Soerensen (Denmark) – Stina completed her Divemaster internship at
the Subway Watersports Palmetto Bay location and fell in love with
diving and Roatan. The next step was her Instructor course and since
her success has gone on to a fulltime position with Coconut Tree
Divers in West End.
Tim
Ford (UK) – Tim changed his teacher status from Science to high
schoolers to that of divers (he claims not a huge leap) and now
works in West End Roatan at Native Sons Dive Center. Tim completed
his Divemaster Internship program at the Turquoise Bay Subway
Watersports location and after gaining experience intends to join
Adam (see February) on his ‘ten year – ten island’ plan!
Oscar
Alvarez (Spain/Mexico) – Oscar comes from a career in
photojournalism and after completing his Divemaster with Luke and
the Ocean Connections crew completed his IDC in style! Oscar found
work locally with Octopus Divers and once getting his experience up
will be returning to Mexico to work on his dive & sail plans.
Jacob
Rowe (UK) – Jacob also completed his Divemaster with Luke (El Jeffe)
at Ocean Connections in West End Roatan and then joined us for his
Instructor program. Jacob & Kiki (also completing her DM @ OC) will
head off for some Central America adventures and continue their
interest in environmental projects with diving.
April
IDC Staff Instructor - Doug
(Texas, not always considered USA) – Doug his instructor with us in
September 2007 after several years at Coco View Resort. He then
joined the team at Subway Watersports and completed his IDC Staff
Instructor during this IDC. Doug will now be moving on to work with
Marc Linton at Barefoot Cay – we will miss you Doug!
Stephanie
Metaschk (Germany) – Stephanie is joining Stefan (see January) in
their plans to see the world and taste its diving/surfing
adventures! Stefaphanie completed her DM with Ocean Connections and
after her IDC quickly found work with Pura Vida Dive Center in West
End Roatan.
Michelle
Radersma (Holland) – After a year of working on an Emporer
Live-aboard dive vessel in Egypt Michelle chose Subway & Roatan to
continue her training. Michelle went on to great success at the IDC,
is currently working at Pura Vida Dive Center (with Stephanie &
Stefan) and still refers to Roatan as ‘Paradise Island’.
May
Annessa Kaufman (USA) – Annessa
completed her Divemaster with us at Subway Turquoise and we hired
Annessa on for some Divemaster work. Now she has decided to take on
the next challenge and become an Instructor with us. Annessa lists
her inspirations as her love of diving, travel and expanding her
horizons.
Shawn (USA) – Shawn is preparing
for a new adventure with his wife – seeing the world and diving!
Shawn has completed his training with Cassondra, Allison & the rest
of the Tylls Dive Center gang and we are looking forward to
welcoming him into our diving lifestyle.
Mike Bird (USA) – Mike decided
to change his career with the Environmental Protection Agency and
follow his dream of diving! For his Divemaster Mike attended Utila
Dive Center and then completed his training with Ocean Connections.
Since then Mike has devoted himself to diving, earning his Assistant
Instructor, EFR Instructor and most recently (and impressively) his
TEC DEEP Diver with Course Director Phil Phelan at Deep Blue Divers,
Utila. Mike is now attending the Subway IDC and will be then
continuing his adventures under the sea.
Manu Dubuef (France) – Manu
brings years of CMAS diving experience and after a few months of
Divemastering at Pura Vida is joining us for the May Instructor
Development Course. Once completing this step Manu has his sights
set on the Big Blue World!
Chris Carolin (USA) – Chris
comes from a background in Marine Biology and plans to combine his
knowledge, skills and easygoing manner into success as a PADI
Instructor. Chris completed his Divemaster with Ocean Connections in
West End Roatan.
June
Sharon
Bevington (Canada) – Sharon began her training with Julian at our
Palmetto Bay Resort last year and fell in love with Roatan and
diving. After some time back in Canada Sharon returned a few months
ago to complete her Divemaster Training with ‘Dive Guru Julian’.
After becoming a MSDT with us, she has been working for Barefoot Cay
and practicing the ancient Mayan Ritual of embracing the Turtle God
(road to enlightenment and being one with nature).
Dawn
Wonder (USA)– Dawn is also a returning student to Subway and Roatan!
Dawn completed her DM with Vanessa & Dennis, has been Divemastering
in West End and plans on turning a life of water adventures into her
career here on Roatan. Dawn has been becoming a Fish & Fauna Expert
and is a big divers favorite!
Kelly
Foust (USA)– Kelly left the overcast days of the Pacific Northwest
and a life in Computing to embrace his diving lifestyle. Kelly is
also an alumnus of DM Guru Julian and between finishing his DM has
been assisting around the center, learning all the aspects of
running a Dive Center, logging dives and becoming a general Mr
Fixit!
Martin
Gunderson (USA) – Martin completed his DM & Assistant Instructor
last year here at Subway and after having ridden his Moto down from
the states will be attending this months IDC. Martin has been a
great help around the center, assisting with divers, courses and
snorkelers – his enthusiasm is contagious!
August
IDC
Staff Instructor - Trevor Brown (Canada) - Trevor is the owner
of Ocean Connections in West End Roatan and joined us to become
an IDC Staff Instructor to offer his Divemaster candidates
extensive training through to the Assistant Instructor level.
Trevor's knowledge of the reefs biology, sense of humor and
dedication to his students have made his PADI Pro programs very
popular in West End Roatan.

Garth Harms (USA/Colombia) - Garth finished his Divemaster and
Assistant Instructor with Subway last year and after touring
through, Thailand and Cambodia and the wilds of Orange County CA
returned to complete his Instructor training in August. After
successfully completing his internship with Subway, Garth will
be looking to take his coconut picking skills on a worldwide
tour!
September

Jessica
Blanchard (Switzerland) - Jess is taking life head on! With
plans that include finishing her Divemaster and Instructor
programs here with Subway, Jess will soon be taking her new set
of skills and her great laugh on to new adventures!
Kristian
Miller (USA) - After completing his Divemaster with
the gang at Tylls Dive Center in West End Roatan, Kristian has
been working leading dives and getting to know the local fish by
name (Jane, Frank, etc). Kristian has been sharing his skills
between Tylls and Native Sons and will be joining the Tylls Team
after completing his IDC.
Daniel
Owen - (UK) Daniel completed his Divemaster training with
Barry and the staff of Reef Gliders in West End Roatan and
has been honing his DM skills for the past few months.
Daniel claims to make an excellent Mohito following his
years of bartending - a skill the guys at Reef Gliders are
sure to enjoy when he rejoins them as an Instructor.
October
Alex
Dincser (USA) IDC Staff Instructor - Alex is one of the key
Instructional Staff at Reef Gliders in West End Roatan and
having accomplished his IDCS will now be offering training
through to Assistant Instructor for Reef Gliders. Alex has been
a full time Instructor here on Roatan for several years,
creating a loyal group of customers with quality dive training,
we were pleased to have him join us for his IDCS program!
November
Brian
Johnson (Canada - Eh!) - IDC Staff - Brian is takin some
time off from his rafting business to take the next step in
his diving career. Brian has been splitting his time between
rafting expeditions in the summers and dive instruction in
the winters. Once he has completed his IDCS program Brian
looks to kep busy teaching in Roatan this year.

Warren Storey (Canada) - Warren has arrived (there was some
doubt as he rode his motorcycle all the way from Canada... look
on a map!) and has decided to take advantage of the island
lifestyle and become an Instructor. Warrens plans include
getting some work experience here on Roatan and then seeing
where he ends up with a bag full of scuba gear and a
motorcycle... (wait... I'm feeling a bit jealous here!).
Jerrod
Hertzler (USA) - Beginning diving back in 1996, Jerrod is
now completing his Divemaster & Assistant
Instructor Internship with Trevor & The Crew at Ocean
Connections in West End Roatan. Having being in the US Army
for the last decade Jerrod plans on continuing to see more
of the world, now through a diving mask.
Quinn
Lowen (Canada) - Quinn is a well traveled Divemaster having
ben diving in Indonesia, Thailand, Australia, Costa
Rica.... okay! On and on! Quinn is moving over from his SSI
training into full blown 'PADIhood' before heading back to
complete his degree in Resource Management.
Camilla
Jackson (UK) - Camilla left the stock exchange trader floor
for island life, diving & yoga! She is finishing her
Internship - Divemaster & Assistant Instructor with Trevor @
Ocean Connections prior to the IDC. Camilla has a diving
resume including; Tanzania, Australia, Belize, Nicaragua &
Belize and plans on continuing to enjoy Roatan Life as an
Instructor.
Robin
Keys - (USA) - Robin completed her DM with Luke @ Ocean
Connections during the summer. Between becoming an icon of
Roatans Social Elite and her plans of teaching kiddies to
dive Robin has big plans for being an Instructor here in
Roatan.
